La Viña Zarate (LVZ) is not just another law firm. Founded by two friends, Antonio Gabriel La Viña and Kaloi Zarate, LVZ specializes in public interest cases, championing indigenous rights, human rights, and environmental advocacy. Their work goes beyond the courtroom—partnering with the Klima Center at the Manila Observatory, LVZ is committed to serving communities that need it most. They’re lawyers, yes, but above all, they’re advocates for people and the planet.
The Challenge
When LVZ launched, they knew they wanted to stand out. They didn’t want to look like every other law firm—conservative, predictable, and, let’s face it, boring. But they also needed to build trust and establish credibility. Their brand had to do more than look professional; it had to feel purposeful.
The challenge was clear: how do you create an identity that communicates strength, advocacy, and expertise—without blending into the sea of traditional law firms?

Creative Direction
A Shield for the People
At the heart of LVZ’s new brand are three ideas: weaving, a shield, and the people they defend. Their work is about weaving through complexities to build a shield—protecting indigenous communities, human rights defenders, and environmental advocates. This isn’t just a metaphor; it’s the story their brand tells at every touchpoint.

The Logo
Protection, Collaboration, and Advocacy
We developed two concepts to bring LVZ’s mission to life. The final logo embodies a woven shield—symbolizing protection and the collaborative nature of their work. The shield also takes the shape of a leaf, a nod to their partnership with the Klima Center and their focus on environmental justice. The result? A logo that’s not just striking but meaningful, instantly connecting LVZ’s purpose with their visual identity.

Brand Colors
Professional Meets Cultural
The chosen color palette breaks the mold of traditional law firms. Inspired by the rich purple and earthy tones of the Yakan—an indigenous group known for their intricate weaving patterns—it reflects LVZ’s commitment to cultural preservation and advocacy. These colors position the firm as approachable yet professional, standing out while staying true to their roots.

Typography
Balancing Tradition and Flexibility
The typography strikes a balance between tradition and modernity. For headlines, we chose Source Serif, evoking trust and authority. For body text, Noto Sans offers clarity and approachability. Both are variable fonts with flexible weights, ensuring they adapt seamlessly to everything from formal legal documents to digital platforms.

Key Visuals
A Shield of Weave
The visuals draw directly from the shapes and textures of weaving patterns, tying back to LVZ’s big idea. These patterns allow the brand to shift effortlessly between bold and professional, ensuring adaptability across various platforms. Whether for digital use or printed collateral, the visuals communicate purpose and action.
