2 Ways to Approach Branding

WAY #1: Branding First

This could mean building your brand before launch or even before developing your offer.

You’d hear many branding specialists suggest this way.

Why?

With branding, you’ll be able to define all these right off the bat:

  • Your target market
  • Your messaging strategy
  • Your positioning
  • Your offers
  • Your brand identity
  • Your customer journey
  • Your pricing strategy

For this method, most of the research and development will be done by the branding specialist.

Consider this path if:

  • You have a good understanding of your market
  • This isn’t your first business
  • You have a team for your marketing, ads, and lead gen

But in my observation, many startups don’t have the capacity or budget to cover end-to-end branding.

So they’re stuck with only parts of the branding process, leading to trial and errors in the future.

WAY #2: Branding Last

Most of my clients do this.

Before professionally working on their branding, they first validated their market, offer, and client acquisition.

They’re at the stage where they plan on expanding their business, growing their team, investing in marketing, or looking to establish their brand.

What’s good about this is that the branding becomes much more accurate.

Why?

Because we have real data and experiences to base the brand strategy on.

We can spend less time and resources on the research phase.

And in my observation..

branding done at this stage tends to last longer compared to branding done in the earlier stage of a business, especially in the set-up of an agency or personal brand.

Because they’re already certain about what they do and who they do it for.

While their branding hasn’t been professionally made YET, their branding is already in their head.

They just need help articulating it to everyone else.
